Bridport is the gateway to some of the world’s most celebrated links golf. Barnbougle Dunes and Barnbougle Lost Farm are both an easy drive away — perfect for an early tee-off and a relaxed return to your apartment afterwards.

When you feel like exploring further, the North-East has plenty to offer within an easy drive.

The Pipers River wine trail

Some of Australia’s best cool-climate cellar doors are 15 minutes down the B7. Try Jansz for sparkling that rivals France, Pipers Brook (with a café for lunch), Dalrymple for Sauvignon Blanc and cherry-red Pinot Noir, Bay of Fires Vineyard for the award-winning Arras sparkling, and Delamere’s renovated cellar door. Most will ship your purchases home for you.

Everything else there is to do

Bridport rewards a bit of wandering. Here’s the long list the locals point visitors to — pick a few and work your way through them.

On the water

  • Snorkel Mermaids Pool, then rock-hop across to Granite Point
  • Find Elephant Rock between Eastmans and Goftons beaches
  • Swim the stretch from Elephant Rock to Croquet Lawn, Old Pier or Mermaids Pool beach
  • Drift-snorkel the channel on an incoming tide — strong swimmers only, and well clear of the boat ramp
  • Walk out to the 100 Sisters rocks at very low tide (check with the Surf Life Saving Club first)
  • Hunt for sea creatures in the rock pools — look, don’t touch

On foot & on wheels

  • Walk the foreshore track from the bridge, reading the Bridport history panels as you go
  • Take the Bridport walking track — Brid River, the mill dam and the watercourse
  • Ride the foreshore track out to Adams Beach and on to the Little Forrester River (bike hire available)
  • Cycle to Barnbougle or Lost Farm for coffee, breakfast or lunch
  • Try a trick at the skate park on a bike, scooter or skates

Fishing

  • Cast off the rocks at Adams Beach or the Croquet Lawn
  • Fish the mouth of the channel at Trent Water
  • Try the Brid River or the Little Forrester River
  • Pick up an inland fishing brochure from the visitor centre

Golf, tennis & games

  • Play Barnbougle Dunes, Lost Farm or the Bridport Golf Club
  • Two public tennis courts — one in town, one at the Old Pier; hire gear at the visitor centre
  • Rollin’ tennis, frisbee golf and sandcastle building for the kids

Seasonal & family

  • Nippers (5–12) and Surf Sports (13+) run Sunday mornings in January and February at the Surf Life Saving Club
  • Ask the club about Swim the Pier over summer
  • Feast on freshly split Tasmanian scallops, roughly June to December

Slow it down

  • Watch the sun set at Old Pier Beach, or catch sunrise from any beach in town
